CHEC Announces the Appointment of a New Executive Director

The Board of Christian Higher Education Canada (CHEC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Aileen Van Ginkel as CHEC’s new Executive Director, effective September 1, 2020. She will succeed Dr. Justin Cooper, who has served in this capacity for the past ten years. “Aileen brings a wealth of gifts and experience to this position,” said Board Chair, Dr. David Johnson, “and we look forward to her leadership as she guides our association into its next phase of development.”

Dr. Van Ginkel currently serves as the Vice-President for Ministry Services of the EFC (Evangelical Fellowship of Canada) and has also been a CHEC Board member for the past 15 years. A gifted strategic thinker and facilitator, she has also been seconded for service to the World Evangelical Alliance and has served on many commissions, church and ministry committees and the boards of the Institute for Christian Studies and Tyndale University. She holds a DMin degree from Tyndale, based on her research on the role of prayer in strategic planning in Christian organizations, a Master’s degree in Canadian History from the University of Toronto and a BA from Calvin University.

“Having spent many years in Christian higher education in various roles, I’m excited to have this opportunity to lead CHEC at this critical time,” said Dr. Van Ginkel. “By nurturing relationships and dialogue among our members, CHEC has the potential to stimulate innovation and foster increased collaboration, especially in the current challenging context.”

She was to have been welcomed by CHEC’s membership at their conference in May at Ambrose University in Calgary, which has now been postponed until Spring 2021 in response to the COVID outbreak. See our website for more details: https://www.checanada.ca/projects/chec_conference_2020

A special online meeting of CHEC presidents will be arranged at a later date to celebrate this transition of Executive Directors.
